Yoga is something I’ve done more off than on since my first pregnancy. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to attend Yoga on the Green, a free will offering yoga class offered twice a week downtown. I looked up their class offerings and noticed the same teacher taught a yoga nidra class.

The class was described as being a guided meditation and the equivalent of three hours of sleep. Since I’ve not slept a lot, I figured I’d give it a go.

So I took my yoga mat to class, not really knowing what to expect.

When I arrived, the teacher remembered me and we chatted a bit. I briefly shared my diagnosis and how I wanted to give this a try. She loaded me up with yoga blocks and a blanket, and I found a place to set out my mat.

She turned off the lights, offered essential oils in the palms of anyone who wanted it, then had us take note of the feelings of different body parts, working from head to toe. Before I knew it, it was over. It was some of the best rest that I’d had in a while, and I did feel refreshed.

When the teacher asked the class if we liked this guided meditation, a regular attendee said that she liked this one with the park.

Park? Oh man, I was snoozing. Well, I do remember sitting on a park bench with Colonel Sanders, so my semi-conscious brain was taking in some of the guided meditation. I am going to guess that Colonel Sanders was not part of the guided meditation. Even so, this was a different activity for me and something I’ll look into attending again.
