Household organization is not a strength of mine. I’m a visual person, so if something is out of sight, then it is out my mind.
Cancer has a lot of paperwork like FMLA forms, Explanation of Benefit statements from insurance companies, medications, medication schedules, and appointment reminders. I started to place everything in a binder chronologically to provide some sense of order in this wild and chaotic journey. The binder found a home in a magazine rack, and I housed the growing prescription medication bottles in a dedicated shoebox. Despite this, the paperwork increased faster than I could keep up, and I wanted to keep the materials separate from the regular household paperwork.
So I found a basket in the basement that was large enough to house the magazine rack, the shoebox of medication, and random things cancer things like essential oils and cards from friends. It’s in the kitchen for all to see, so if my husband and kids can easily add something to it or retrieve something from it. If the Queen of England decide to visit, then I can pick up all things cancer and place it temporarily out of sight in one fell swoop.
When a quiet moment presents itself, then I can file the paperwork accordingly since everything is in one place. Whether it’s a basket or a bag, keeping the growing paperwork of cancer things in place has been helpful.
